The Garth

The Garth

The Garth is the medieval courtyard once bordered on all sides by the Dominican cloisters (only the south side of which still remains). The garth offers easy access to the Riverside Walk, and is adjacent to some of the Norwich University of the Arts campus.

The garth also makes a picturesque outdoor reception area and with its stunning mulberry tree, and the ruins of the old buildings, it is an ever popular choice for wedding photographs.

Marquees on The Garth

Many larger events at The Halls, such as the Norwich Beer Festival, choose to increase their capacity by erecting a marquee on The Garth.

As well as the flagstones bordering The Garth, the grassed area in the centre of the space covers the remains of the monastic building, which have yet to be fully documented. Extreme care is required when erecting a marquee in this area so as not to disrupt the remains which can be just a few inches below the surface. Please contact us if you would like to discuss erecting a marquee for your event.
